Almost there

Sorry for lack of posts, but were very much in end game on HS. So thoughtful techy blog posts aren’t coming easily (some would argue any thoughts aren’t coming at the mo TBH ;-) )

Christer Ericson has made a cool post describing LogLuv HDR (which Marco did for HS and we christianed NAO32) on PS3. So go read if you wanna know how to do it, its pretty similar to what HS is using to get 4xMSAA and HDR using only 32 bit pixels.

The hype has really kicked off for HS, TV special was shown the other day and I’ve tried to answer various comments on a few forums (waves at Beyond3D, Neogaf and psinext peeps). Hopefully once we’ve passed master submission I’ll have a bit more time to chat about things (and do that consolidation of the various comments), tho still free to ask thing before hand if you want.

Hey, nice work. I have been following E3 press conference. This year got so many new games – MGS4, new PSP and KZ2. I wish I can see more HS but I guess everything has to be seen is already on the net. I am looking forward to HS *v*

    Waveback from b3d! :D

Waiting so much to get ps3 and your game. Impressive tech alltogether!

I read somewhere that HS’s protagonist can jump. Is this true? Honestly, I was a bit worry because Action/Combat game that can’t jump usually not that good. Lack of that platform game feel.

  4. Deano Says:

We don’t have a jump button, there are a number of moves (aerial combos) that launch into the air but no jumping.

Ok.. I will miss the jumping from platform to platform but I am still looking forward to this game.

smoothn00dle – well if there are no platforms to jump onto then what is there to miss? I.E. If the game has been designed well to not need a jump button (except when contextual, such as Kai vaulting over things) then you won’t miss it…

Though if you miss jumping on platforms, then you are playing the wrong game, since HS is not a platformer – you’ll want to play Ratchet or Uncharted on the PS3 for that. :)

Jumping is not just for platformer. DMC and God of War, jumping entrance evasion. When the action on the ground too intense, you jump. Once the protagonist is in the air, you can launch death from above attack is fun.

I was responding to this: “I will miss the jumping from platform to platform”.

I do understand what you mean – but something about the jumping in GOW really put me off – a double jump was so unrealistic and annoying. And I don’t think GOW is a game to look at for fighting either – simplistic in my eyes. Though fun (repetive).

But yes as I said – if the environments are made well and the fighting mechanics have height in them – you may well not miss jumping. We’ll see aye? :)

Only one day to go, till you can have a play (assuming a PS3 and PSN connection) :)

Nice on Deano. Congrats on getting this far – not too long for you guys either!

Can’t wait to have a dabble with Nariko :)

    @Deep

Jumping in God of War is Ok because they have “rolling”. I think that is one of best invention in action/adventure game.

Back to jumping, GOW’s jump can’t evade enemy, u will die 4 sure. It design for platform jumping. It is low jump so the player can easily control where to land. Unlike DMC jump that is so high, the player has no idea where is going but he’s safe for awhile. On Dante must die level, I use jump more than I use attack button. Insane!!!
