Oddly my favorite christmas song just came on (even though its the middle of June…).
Very strange seeing the video (which is a classic Christmas nativity scene) been shown in June. It probably cos its never really been seen as a Christmas song in the convention sense (it never mentions it). Its also I think cos its never really accepted by the Christian community cos of the singers (its strange to think what has been one of the most Christian videos and songs was done by the same guys wrote the line “Relax, don’t do it, when you want to cum”).
Brilliant song, but I guess if those Christians who don’t like gay sex are right, then Hell does have all the best musicians…
The video has lots of eye candy
but the song is good. Think thats a Pulp bass-line…
She really can’t sing… add that to a long line of other things she can’t do (like act, look good, remember the name of here own game, or even do decent porn…)
I agree with South Park…
The Korn video for Twisted Transistor has a bunch of rappers playing the band Korn. Snoop plays Monkey the slightly crazy one, it really suits him IMHO, he should definately consider a career as a heavy metal rocker
Just heard the Cream vs The Hoxten Sunshine of your life. Quite like it no usually one for these revisits of 6o-80s songs but this works quite well.
The video is a bit weird with this blond singing in Eric Claption’s voice, but she’s certainly easier on the eyes than ol’ Eric.
Got the day off today, so just catching up on MTV and comtempleting the world…. Hmm Sugarbabes, push the button is on. That video is hot, no other word for it…
I love the whole vector graphics look, neons, Tron, Jeff Minter stuff, so the Super Furry Animals Lazerbeam video is truely mind blowing.
Its 3 minutes of neony, glowing city scape, just being lovely and glowy.
Very lovely indeed…
A 3D shooter done in that art style would be a must buy for me.
Chemical Brothers, Believe has a great video. A guy getting hunted down by robot from a car factory. The animation and sinister look of the robots are fantastic. They look much better than most monsters just because they look so real but deadly.
Nine Inch Nails, Only is also good. Rezner is rendered in a nail board (you know a plate full of nails that you press your hand into get a pattern). His face singing is rendered onto the nail board like a low res dot matrix display. I wonder if you could make a real one…, guess you would need lots of solenoids to move each nail and then write a bit of software to control it… That would be cool.
Foo Fighers, D.O.A is bizarre. They whole thing is rotating around the Y, so as the band play they are upside down. There also a comedy bit with a train and muffins… Love Foo fighters videos for just being fun and fall of energy. Haven’t quite figured out how they did the rotating bit yet, need to watch it a few more times, some parts are CGI (the liquids) and others bits I think they are actually upside down…
Edit:
MTV2 just said the D.O.A. was done by strapping the band in a 360 degree rotating room… I want one that sounds like fun….
Went to a Skinny Puppy gig in London last night, it was excellent.
Very very loud of course, good music and some great visuals. The lead singer really does look like he’s decaying
Cos I’m on crutches, the sent us up to the gallery, so we had an excellent view. Which was probably a good idea given the moshing (I expect I would have knocked over) but I suspect it was more they were worried about a big guy with two metal bars (crutches) twatting people who piss him off
.
Only slight downer was one of us who was going, went down ill the day before so couldn’t make it.
I watch a lot of music videos due to the wonders of MTV and the like.
The latest Jessica Simpson video (These boots are made for walking) is strange, don’t get me wrong I like semi-naked women as much as any man but the video just doesn’t work even though she got as close to soft-porn as the US would allow.
Basically you have Miss Simpson and a bunch of busty dancers, shaking the arse at the camera in either a bikini or cut-off jeans hot pants. I’m not sure why it disturbs me… Its just so blatant, I fails to be sexy at all to me, it ends up failing for being so in your face. I remember seeing a video of hers where she was a lot more covered up in tee-shirt and jeans and she looked a lot better. I guess it proves that just being naked and shaking your arse at the camera doesn’t do it for me.
Another thought is why videos get redone, the Kaiser Chiefs “I predict a riot” (excellent album and song BTW) originally had a video of them at a gig just singing with some crazy people dancing. That’s been replaced by a black and white video of a Wild West town, with a quack selling medicine that alters the drinker. Its quite nice in style (I like the early film look, things like Metropolis) but it just doesn’t work for the song, the original was a lot more “in your face”, getting the riot feel across much better. The new black and white one just feels too sleepy to fit the song…
A video that I really like is Gorillaz “Dare”, its in the usual toon style that all Gorillaz videos are in but it mixes in a live head. I really like it, I’ve always had a soft spot for live and toon mixs (from the ol’ Tom and Jerry film to Roger Rabbit) and this works really nicely. Gorillaz really do some quality videos (the music is good as well)
